Introducing the Interreg Central Europe JETforCE Project
As laid out in the European Green Deal, the EU has set out to decarbonise its economy by 2050 out of necessity for climate change mitigation and adaptation. In parallel, with increasing energy prices, social aspects of the green energy transition have moved into focus. There is therefore a broad consensus that Europe’s inevitable energy transition must be just and fair. Ideally, future energy policies and investments are co-created with citizens. Citizens require the chance to contribute to measures affecting their life, work and opportunities, but this requires knowledge, understanding and equal access to appropriate digital tools.
The recently approved Interreg Central Europe JETforCE – Just Energy Transition for Central Europe – project therefore supports regions to better involve their citizens digitally, harnessing digitalisation as a means to co-design and co-implement a “Just Energy Transition in Central Europe”. Over the course of the three-year project, the JETforCE consortium tests and validates two novel solutions for digital citizen engagement in policymaking, evaluating technologies used for engagement through a “just transition lense”. The JETforCE project falls within the “Cooperating for a greener central Europe” priority and has a budget of € 2.37 million, with 80% co-finance from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
